Our Story
I'm Juliana, the founder of Amherst Soaps, and the soapmaker behind the scenes.
This soapy adventure started in the kitchen of my one bedroom apartment in 2018, as I trialed a new craft for the students in my Home Economics club. The kids loved it, and so did I! Several batches later I found myself in quite the situation: teacher by day, soap queen by night.

What started as a hobby quickly turned into something more: a mission driven business that provides nourishing skin care products that are good for both your skin and the environment.
Amherst Soaps are handmade in small batches, designed with care, and every bar is unique. Whenever possible, we make our soaps using locally sourced ingredients. In this way we multiply the positive impact on our community by supporting our farmers and other small businesses.
Gentle Soap
Our soaps are so popular because they are incredibly gentle, even on sensitive skin. We rely on high superfat levels, which is the amount of unreacted oil in each bar, to lock in moisture and keep skin soft and supple.

Local Ingredients
No mysteries here! Simple, natural ingredients are at the heart of all our soaps.

All of our soap is handmade in small batches, meaning we have great control over our quality. We use only reputable supplies and we source locally whenever possible.

Meet Our Team
Juliana is a trained teacher and scientist who works professionally in the biotech industry. At Amherst Soaps she combines her scientific background with her entrepreneurial spirit to to create artisinal soaps of the highest quality. Juliana loves changing the lives of customers with dry skin, eczema, and skin sensitivities by paring them with the right product to fit their needs!
Everything Else
Chris has been an instrumental team member from the early days. A landscape architect by day, his interests in local agriculture and the environment guides his work at Amherst Soaps. From soap labeling, to lard rendering , to website development, Chris takes pride in making luxurious, gentle soaps that connect consumers to local farmers and helps reduce our plastic consumption.
